overview

Shinde is an iconic camp and one of the very first to be built in Botswana. Nestled on a lush palm island in the Northern Eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, it's fantastic location allows you to do both land and water throughout the year - which is a huge draw.

Rebuilt in 2020, Shinde is unique for its tree-house design with magnificent views of the lagoon in front. Sophisticated yet understated, Shinde offers a laid back luxury safari experience.

About

Shinde's unique main area is a free-flowing, multi-levelled canvas tree house with a wooden staircase linking the decks. It has a really Robinson Crusoe vibe being surrounded by ebony, fig, and mangosteen trees that are interlaced. However, the decor is more elegant, with soft sofas, chairs, and polished-wood furniture in the lounge and a banquet-style seating arrangement in the dining area with one long table where delectable home-style meals are shared. A campfire spot and a welcoming swimming pool are beyond.

Rooms

With just nine tents, it is an intimate setting. Each tent comprises of a large bedroom, en-suite bathroom and an indoor and outdoor shower. There is the choice of either a double or twin bed configuration on comfortable three-quarter, extra length, or king-sized beds. Every possible comfort has been catered for – from full solar electricity, standing and ceiling fans to yoga mats and hair dryers!

Families

Families are accommodated in a custom-built, two-bedroom, shared en-suite bathroom, family tent, sleeping a maximum of 5 people.

Activities

Shinde is situated on a private concession meaning you can do guided walks, mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Game drives are conducted by a personal guide in comfortable, specially designed game drive vehicles. When out on game drives the window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of the camera mount. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy fishing for a variety of species such as tilapia and tigerfish.

FUN FACT

“Shinde” means “tree squirrel” in the local language – Setswana. If you keep your eyes peeled you might spot some leaping through the canopies above.

Mokoro's at Shinde

This is a type of canoe typically used in the Okavango that can propel through shallow waters by using a large pole to push down on the riverbed, similar to punting.

Fishing at Shinde

Fishing is available throughout the year (with exception of January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing tigerfish during September to mid-November.
