Our Take
Ecuador is best known for the Galápagos, and rightly so. Few places offer such extraordinary wildlife encounters, with giant tortoises, marine iguanas, sea lions, penguins and an incredible variety of birdlife often seen remarkably close up.
There is much more to Ecuador than the islands, however. On the mainland, you can explore Quito’s historic centre, travel through the spectacular Avenue of the Volcanoes, stay in characterful Andean haciendas or venture into the Amazon.
