Our Take
Uruguay is less about ticking off famous sights and more about enjoying the experience of being there. The coastline is a particular highlight, with long sandy beaches, laid-back beach towns and some excellent small hotels, while inland you’ll find traditional estancias, vineyards and open countryside.
We particularly like Uruguay as part of a wider South American journey. It combines brilliantly with Argentina, with easy connections from Buenos Aires, and a few days in the countryside followed by the coast makes a lovely contrast to the energy of the region’s larger cities.
