Tomjachu

Tomjachu Bush Retreat is an exclusive luxury retreat set within a private 550-hectare nature reserve in the Crocodile Valley Nature Conservancy, just outside Mbombela (Nelspruit) in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. Surrounded by rolling mountains, indigenous bushveld and tranquil valleys overlooking the southern boundary of Kruger National Park, the retreat offers a peaceful escape where nature, relaxation and outdoor adventure come together in unspoilt wilderness.

About
Family-owned and operated, Tomjachu has evolved from a former farm into a thriving private nature reserve dedicated to conservation and sustainable tourism. Now managed by the third generation of the Fillery family, the retreat combines warm hospitality with a deep respect for the surrounding environment. With no dangerous game on the reserve, guests are free to explore on foot or by bike, making Tomjachu an ideal destination for those seeking a slower, more immersive bush experience while remaining within easy reach of the Kruger region.
Rooms
Accommodation is spread across a collection of individually designed suites, cottages and private villas, each positioned to maximise privacy and spectacular bushveld views. Options range from elegant Homestead Suites for couples to spacious self-catering cottages and the exclusive six-bedroom Valbonne Villa for families or groups. Natural materials, contemporary African-inspired interiors and generous indoor and outdoor living spaces create a relaxed atmosphere, while selected accommodation features private plunge pools and expansive terraces overlooking the reserve.
Dining
Dining at Tomjachu celebrates fresh, home-style cuisine prepared with locally sourced and home-grown organic ingredients. Meals are served in the welcoming Homestead dining room or enjoyed outdoors in spectacular bush settings. One of the retreat’s signature experiences is the Bush Dinner, where guests enjoy a scenic nature drive before dining beneath the stars around a crackling fire, accompanied by carefully selected South African wines and the sounds of the surrounding wilderness.
Activity
Tomjachu offers a wide variety of activities designed to immerse guests in the beauty of the Lowveld. Guided nature drives, bush walks and birdwatching excursions reveal abundant plains game, including giraffe, zebra, kudu, wildebeest and more than 290 recorded bird species. Guests can also explore over 20 kilometres of hiking and mountain biking trails, enjoy catch-and-release fishing, picnic in scenic locations or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. For those wishing to explore further afield, excursions to Kruger National Park can also be arranged.
