When to go

On safari, January marks the start of the short dry season, although timings can be unpredictable. Expect lush, green conditions and sightings of newborn animals. It is hot with passing clouds, but brief afternoon showers cool things down without compromising your safari. On the coast, it will be hot with sunny, bright days and clear waters.

Rain

We are still in the short dry season with higher temperatures, a little rain, and a sunny coastline. A lovely time to travel.

The end of March sees the arrival of the long rains. The timing of their arrival can be a little unpredictable.

The long rains are in full flow. We advise against travel at this time of year.

An unpredictable month where you can expect great weather and rain rolled into one on safari. The coast is still wet.

June is a transition month that sees dry weather return on safari. However, the coast still sees some rain.

The long dry season is in full flow and the first herds of The Great Migration enter the Masai Mara from Tanzania. Temperatures are pleasant and conditions for game viewing are perfect. A great time to be on safari and the coast.

Temp

Rain

The migrating herds fill the Masai Mara. Dry conditions and pleasant temperatures make for superb game viewing. The perfect time for a holiday with virtually no rain across the country.

Temp

Rain
30MM

Another dry season month as temperatures start to rise. The Great Migration herds graze in the Masai Mara and game viewing remains excellent across Kenya's National Parks.

Temp

Rain

The last month of the dry season, with rain due to arrive later in the month. A great time of year to be on safari and to utilise special offers.

Temp
29°C
Rain
150MM

November heralds the start of the 'short rains' with hotter temperatures. Some camps across Kenya close, but the Masai Mara remains open, and despite occasional stormy skies, the game viewing is still very good. Fewer crowds and lower prices make this an attractive month to visit.

Temp
27°C
Rain
100MM

On safari the short rains ease as we enter the short dry season, more so as the month goes on. By Christmas both the safari and beach conditions are good - you will need to book well in advance if travelling at this time of year, as it is popular, and know this is when prices peak.
