Kisawa Sanctuary

Set across 300 hectares of forest, dunes and private coastline, Kisawa is Mozambique’s most ambitious ultra-luxury stay, with around 8–11 standalone residences, each occupying its own vast plot with direct beach access, private pool and dedicated service team. Residences range from one- to three-bedroom villas plus a larger Founder’s Residence, designed as multiple pavilions linked by outdoor living areas. Days revolve around wellness, marine exploration and total privacy, with access to the Bazaruto Marine National Park.

Vibe: ultra-private, architectural and quietly futuristic—more like owning a remote coastal estate than staying in a hotel.

&Beyond Benguerra Island

Run by safari specialists &Beyond, this lodge-style property has around 12–13 rooms, including cabanas, casinhas and a larger Casa Familia villa, all set along a sheltered lagoon. Rooms are more traditional in style, with wood, thatch and soft neutral tones, but the emphasis here is on service, guiding and activities, from dhow sailing and diving to island drives. It’s one of the easiest places in Mozambique to combine structured experiences with beach downtime.

Vibe: a safari lodge on the ocean—friendly, well-run and activity-driven with a slightly more social feel.

Azura Benguerra Island

One of Mozambique’s original luxury island stays, Azura Benguerra offers around 20 thatched beachfront villas, including Beach Villas and larger Luxury Beach Villas, all with private pools and generous indoor–outdoor layouts. The hotel is known for its strong food offering and personalised hosting, with experiences like dhow picnics, private beach dinners and island hopping built into the stay. It strikes a balance between comfort and authenticity, with a warm, community-led feel.

Vibe: classic barefoot luxury—romantic, relaxed and polished without feeling overdesigned.

Azura Marlin Beach

A newer, more contemporary sibling to Azura Benguerra, Azura Marlin Beach is a small boutique property with just 10 villas, designed with a cleaner, more modern aesthetic. Villas sit directly on the beach with open-plan layouts and a lighter, more design-led feel. While still offering the same core activities—diving, snorkeling and dhow trips—the atmosphere is slightly more intimate and social, with a fresh, youthful energy compared to older island lodges.

Vibe: boutique and stylish—modern barefoot luxury with a bit more personality and edge.

Sussurro

Set on a remote lagoon rather than a classic oceanfront beach, Sussurro is an intimate hideaway with around 6–7 open-sided bungalows, each built from natural materials and designed to blend into the landscape. There’s a strong emphasis on sustainability, slow living and craft, with solar power, locally sourced food and thoughtfully curated interiors. Activities are deliberately low-key—kayaking, dhow sailing, or simply spending time in the space.

Vibe: barefoot, artistic and understated—more about atmosphere and design than traditional luxury or structured experiences.

Santorini Mozambique

Overlooking the mainland coast near Vilanculos, Santorini Mozambique is a boutique, villa-style property with around 5 suites plus several private villas, all designed around courtyards and terraces with sea views. The layout allows for flexible, highly personalised stays, whether booking a single suite or taking over a full villa with private staff. Its location makes it an easy base for Bazaruto excursions, while still offering a relaxed, residential feel.
