Cap Karosa

Cap Karoso is a contemporary beachfront retreat on the remote island of Sumba, where bold design, creative energy, and raw natural beauty come together. Set on a pristine stretch of coastline, it offers a fresh, cultural approach to luxury travel in Indonesia.
Overview
Located on the rugged southwest coast of Sumba, Cap Karoso is a strikingly modern resort that reimagines luxury through architecture, art, and community engagement. Designed by French architects Studio KO, the property blends brutalist-inspired forms with traditional Sumbanese influences, using raw concrete, local stone, and handcrafted details to anchor it firmly in its environment. Opened in 2023, Cap Karoso was conceived as a place of creativity and exchange, where design, culture, and sustainability coexist. The result is a resort that feels both avant-garde and deeply connected to the island’s landscape and traditions.
Rooms
Accommodation at Cap Karoso is housed in sleek, low-rise buildings facing the ocean or gardens. Rooms and suites are minimalist yet warm, featuring custom-made furniture, tactile materials, and expansive terraces that frame uninterrupted sea views. The design prioritises light, space, and flow, with interiors that feel contemporary without losing a sense of place. Select suites include plunge pools, while all rooms are designed to encourage a seamless indoor–outdoor lifestyle.
Dining
Dining is a central pillar of the Cap Karoso experience, led by a strong farm-to-table philosophy. Much of the produce comes from the resort’s own organic farm, with menus celebrating Indonesian flavours through a modern culinary lens. Guests can dine at the main restaurant overlooking the ocean, enjoy relaxed meals by the beach club, or experience intimate tasting menus that reflect seasonality and local sourcing. Every meal is designed to feel creative, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in the land.
Activities
Cap Karoso offers a curated mix of wellness, culture, and exploration. Guests can take part in yoga and fitness sessions, unwind with holistic spa treatments, or explore Sumba’s landscapes through guided walks, waterfall visits, and village encounters. Surfing, paddleboarding, and beach activities are available along the wild coastline, while cultural programming — including art residencies and local collaborations — adds depth to the stay. The experience is immersive yet relaxed, encouraging guests to engage meaningfully with Sumba at their own pace.
