overview

Resting on the banks of the Kamogawa River, The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto blends the refined lines of a traditional machiya townhouse with the polish of world-class service. Suites open onto river views and private gardens, while interiors celebrate artisanal Kyoto craftsmanship — from lacquered wood to washi textures. It’s modern Kyoto elegance with deep cultural roots.

Rooms

Rooms and suites at the Ritz-Carlton are notably spacious by Kyoto standards—most start around 50 m²—and are designed with an emphasis on comfort and traditional touches.   The décor combines smooth wood, natural stone and minimal lines, carefully evoking a sense of calm. Some suites feature tatami-floored areas, hinoki-wood soaking tubs and private terraces overlooking the river or Higashiyama mountains.   Large windows allow for abundant natural light and views, while amenities include high-thread-count linens, gourmet minibars and luxurious bath products.

Dining

Dining at the Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto spans authentic Japanese cuisine and refined Western fare. The Japanese restaurant Mizuki serves kaiseki, sushi, tempura and teppanyaki in a setting adorned with seasonal elements and a stone-garden backdrop.   For Italian cuisine, La Locanda offers elegant dishes with a Japanese twist, while the lobby lounge provides desserts and afternoon tea.   Whether you seek traditional Kyoto flavours or international refinement, the hotel delivers an elevated culinary experience.

Activities

Wellness and cultural immersion sit at the heart of the guest experience. The spa spans multiple floors, featuring treatment rooms, a steam room, dry sauna and a 20-metre indoor pool anchored by a cascading waterfall that echoes Kyoto’s water-garden aesthetic.   The hotel’s programme of experiences includes tea-ceremony participation, calligraphy classes, cycling along the river and guided art tours.   These activities allow guests to engage with Kyoto’s heritage in meaningful ways, beyond just the stay itself.
