About
Originally a colonial-era tea bungalow, Nine Skies has been carefully restored into a refined boutique retreat overlooking the rolling hills and tea estates of Sri Lanka’s hill country. Located near Demodara and within easy reach of Ella, the property blends heritage architecture with contemporary comfort, creating an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and sophisticated. Wide verandas, manicured gardens and sweeping views across the surrounding landscape enhance the sense of tranquillity, while the small scale of the property ensures an intimate and highly personalised experience.
Rooms
Accommodation consists of a small collection of individually designed rooms and suites that retain the bungalow’s original character while incorporating modern amenities. Interiors feature polished wooden floors, vintage-inspired furnishings and soft, neutral tones that complement the surrounding landscape. Large windows and private terraces frame views of tea plantations and misty hills, creating calm and inviting spaces ideal for unwinding after a day of exploration.
Dining
Dining at Nine Skies is relaxed and tailored to guests, with menus inspired by fresh local ingredients and Sri Lankan flavours alongside international favourites. Meals are often served communally or on the veranda overlooking the gardens and hills, reinforcing the property’s warm and residential atmosphere. Afternoon tea, candlelit dinners and curated picnic experiences add to the charm of the culinary offering.
Activities
The bungalow’s location makes it an ideal base for exploring Ella and the surrounding hill country. Guests can visit nearby attractions such as Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak and Demodara Loop, or take scenic walks through tea plantations and local villages. Tea factory visits, train journeys through the highlands and guided hikes provide opportunities for cultural and outdoor discovery, while the peaceful gardens and pool encourage slower moments of relaxation.
