Ceylon Tea Trails

Ceylon Tea Trails is a collection of historic colonial bungalows set within Sri Lanka’s scenic tea country, offering refined all-inclusive stays, personalised butler service and immersive experiences among working tea estates. Combining heritage charm with contemporary comfort, it delivers one of the island’s most distinctive and elegant escapes.

About
Located in the hill country around Hatton, Ceylon Tea Trails was the first tea bungalow resort of its kind in Sri Lanka, transforming former planters’ residences into luxurious retreats. Each bungalow dates back to the colonial era and has been carefully restored to preserve its character, with period furnishings, wide verandas and sweeping views across emerald tea plantations. Set within a working tea estate near Castlereagh Lake, the property offers a unique opportunity to experience Sri Lanka’s tea heritage while enjoying exceptional service and tranquillity in a cool, misty mountain setting.
Rooms
Accommodation is spread across several bungalows, each offering a small number of individually styled rooms and suites. Interiors reflect classic colonial elegance, with antique furniture, polished wooden floors and soft, comfortable furnishings. Rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and views over tea fields, gardens or the lake, while shared living spaces such as lounges and verandas create a relaxed, residential atmosphere enhanced by attentive butler service.
Dining
Dining at Ceylon Tea Trails is a highlight, with all meals included and tailored to guest preferences. Menus blend international cuisine with Sri Lankan flavours, often served in elegant dining rooms or al fresco on verandas overlooking the plantations. Traditional afternoon tea is an integral part of the experience, accompanied by freshly brewed Ceylon tea from the surrounding estates. Private dining and picnic experiences can also be arranged, adding variety and a sense of occasion.
Activities
Activities centre around exploring the tea country and its heritage. Guests can take guided walks through tea plantations, visit nearby tea factories to learn about production, or cycle through scenic landscapes. Additional experiences include kayaking on Castlereagh Lake, hiking in the surrounding hills and visiting local villages. The peaceful setting also encourages relaxation, with time spent enjoying the cool climate, panoramic views and slower pace of life in Sri Lanka’s highlands.
