Niyama Private Islands

Reached by a scenic seaplane journey from Malé, Niyama is divided between its two distinct islands. Play has a livelier feel and is home to many of the resort’s family and sporting facilities, while Chill offers a quieter atmosphere centred around relaxation and wellness. Guests can move freely between the two by bicycle or buggy, giving the resort a wonderful sense of space. Despite its size and range of facilities, there are plenty of secluded beaches and quieter corners for those seeking privacy.

Rooms

Accommodation ranges from spacious Beach and Water Villas to larger private-pool pavilions and multi-bedroom residences. Beach Villas are tucked amongst tropical vegetation with direct access to the sand, while the overwater options sit above the lagoon with private decks and steps into the ocean. Many categories feature their own pools, and the larger Beach and Ocean Pavilions offer extensive indoor and outdoor living space, making them particularly well suited to families or groups travelling together.

Dining

Dining is a major strength, with an unusually broad selection of restaurants and bars spread across the two islands and surrounding waters. Highlights include Edge, reached by boat and set out over the ocean, and Subsix, the resort’s extraordinary underwater restaurant located six metres below the surface. Nest serves Asian cuisine amongst the treetops, while Tribal offers an atmospheric outdoor dining experience inspired by cuisines from Africa and South America. More relaxed beachfront and international options provide plenty of additional choice throughout a longer stay.

Activity

Niyama is one of the Maldives’ stronger options for active travellers, with diving, snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing and an extensive range of motorised watersports available. The resort is also unusual in having a renowned surf break directly offshore, with surfing available for both experienced surfers and those wanting to learn. The Drift Spa provides a quieter alternative with treatments, yoga and wellness, while families are exceptionally well catered for by the Explorers Kids Club.
