Alphonse Island

About

Part of the Alphonse Group of islands, Alphonse lies around 400 kilometres south-west of Mahé and is reached by scheduled light-aircraft flights. The island has a wonderfully informal atmosphere, with bicycles used to explore sandy tracks between the accommodation, beaches and activity centres. Conservation is central to life on Alphonse, with the Island Conservation Society involved in protecting turtles, seabirds, marine habitats and the wider ecosystem. Although well run, the experience is deliberately barefoot and nature-led.

Rooms

Accommodation ranges from Beach Bungalows and larger Beach Suites to spacious Beach Villas, all positioned close to the shoreline and surrounded by tropical vegetation. Interiors are light and relaxed, combining natural materials with contemporary island styling, while private terraces provide somewhere to unwind just moments from the beach. The larger villas offer additional bedrooms, private pools and considerably more indoor and outdoor living space, making them particularly appealing to families or groups travelling together.

Dining

Dining is relaxed and makes good use of fresh ingredients grown or sourced on the island, alongside seafood from the surrounding waters. The main restaurant serves changing menus influenced by Creole, Mediterranean and international flavours, with meals complemented by informal beach barbecues and special dining experiences around the island. Guests can also visit the island’s garden and learn more about its farm-to-table approach, while sunset drinks beside the beach are a natural part of evenings on Alphonse.

Activity

Activities are one of the main reasons to choose Alphonse, with the surrounding lagoon and outer reefs offering exceptional snorkelling and diving alongside kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing. The island is internationally renowned for its saltwater fly-fishing, particularly for bonefish, while blue-water fishing can also be arranged. On land, guests can cycle around the island, join nature and conservation walks, visit the giant Aldabra tortoises or look for nesting turtles.
