Awasi Atacama

About

Set at more than 2,500 metres above sea level, Awasi Atacama is designed as a peaceful desert oasis surrounded by native gardens and traditional adobe architecture. The lodge draws inspiration from the ancient settlement of Tulor and incorporates local materials and Atacameño motifs throughout its spaces. Its location in San Pedro provides access to the remarkable landscapes of the Atacama while retaining a sense of privacy and tranquillity, with an outdoor pool and open-air areas offering places to relax beneath the famously clear desert skies.  

Rooms

Awasi Atacama has 12 circular rooms, comprising 10 Superior Round Suites and two Round Rooms. Constructed from stone, adobe and wood beneath traditional thatched roofs, the rooms are designed around comfort, privacy and a strong connection with the surrounding desert. The round rooms feature spacious interiors, en-suite bathrooms, private outdoor areas and reading spaces, while the Superior Round Suites offer additional space and a more expansive outdoor setting.  

Dining

The lodge’s Relais & Châteaux restaurant is exclusively for Awasi guests and celebrates the ingredients and culinary traditions of northern Chile. Chef Sebastián Prieto creates seasonal menus using local produce such as Andean potatoes, quinoa, chañar and algarrobo, complemented by fresh Pacific seafood. Meals can also be taken into the desert, with picnics and lunches arranged amid volcanoes, mountains and the vast Atacama landscape.  

Activity

Every room is assigned a private guide and 4x4 vehicle, allowing excursions to be planned entirely around individual interests and pace. Experiences can include hikes and desert treks, visits to salt flats, high-altitude lagoons and geyser fields, archaeological sites and colourful desert valleys, as well as horseback riding, cycling and birdwatching. Stargazing is a particular highlight, taking advantage of the Atacama’s exceptionally clear night skies, with dedicated astronomical experiences available using both the naked eye and telescope.
