About
Dating back to the 16th century, the building reflects the layered history of Arequipa, having evolved through centuries of earthquakes, reconstruction and changing ownership. Today, its original sillar walls, vaulted ceilings, patios and cloisters have been carefully preserved and complemented by modern furnishings and understated interiors. The hotel sits within Arequipa’s historic centre, making it an elegant base for discovering the city’s colonial architecture, volcanic landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Rooms
CIRQA has 11 rooms across three categories: Claustro, Aposento and Bóveda. Each has its own character, with the intimate Claustro rooms echoing the modest proportions of the monastery’s original monk’s chambers, while Aposento rooms offer more generous dimensions and Bóveda rooms feature high ceilings, private sitting areas and standalone bathtubs. Natural materials, contemporary detailing and original architectural features create a sophisticated yet tranquil atmosphere throughout.
Dining
CIRQA’s cuisine draws deeply on Arequipa’s gastronomic traditions, particularly the flavours and techniques of the region’s traditional picanterías. Executive Chef María Fé García focuses on seasonal local ingredients, balancing simplicity with bold flavours and contemporary presentation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Salón and Terraza, while El Techo de CIRQA offers a more relaxed rooftop setting overlooking the city’s volcanoes, particularly atmospheric at sunset.
Activity
The hotel provides a natural starting point for discovering Arequipa and the surrounding Andes. Guided explorations can reveal the city’s colonial centre, Santa Catalina Monastery and historic churches, while excursions venture further afield to the sillar quarries, the countryside around Sabandía and the dramatic Colca Canyon. Back at the property, guests can relax beside the heated plunge pool, enjoy a massage or simply take in the views from El Techo de CIRQA.
