About

Located within the 3,200-hectare Mashpi Reserve, Mashpi Lodge offers an intimate wilderness experience where conservation, scientific discovery and contemporary luxury come together. Set on a scenic forest plateau at approximately 950 metres above sea level, the lodge is designed to blend into its surroundings, with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the vibrant forest into view from almost every space. The reserve encompasses both rainforest and cloud forest habitats, supporting an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, including hundreds of bird species, butterflies and other endemic flora and fauna. Research and conservation are central to the lodge’s philosophy, with a dedicated scientific team continually studying the forest’s unique ecosystems.  

Rooms

Mashpi Lodge offers contemporary accommodation across three floors, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing uninterrupted views of the surrounding forest canopy. The rooms feature modern furnishings, understated interiors, climate control and soundproofing, creating a comfortable sanctuary amid the humid rainforest environment. Accommodation includes Wayra Rooms, which can connect to accommodate families, smaller Wawa Rooms designed for solo travellers, and the more spacious Yaku Suites, which feature luxurious bathtubs for relaxing after a day of exploration. The overall design prioritises comfort while maintaining a constant connection with the natural world outside.  

Dining

Dining at Mashpi Lodge combines contemporary cuisine with ingredients and flavours inspired by Ecuador’s diverse culinary traditions. Meals are served in the lodge’s elegant dining room, where large windows frame the surrounding greenery and create an immersive rainforest atmosphere. Menus showcase seasonal ingredients and regional influences, with carefully prepared dishes complementing the lodge’s all-inclusive experience. The bar provides a relaxed setting for drinks between excursions, while the emphasis on thoughtful gastronomy adds another dimension to a stay focused on discovering Ecuador’s natural heritage.  

Activity

Exploration is at the heart of the Mashpi experience, with naturalist guides leading guests along forest trails to discover the reserve’s remarkable biodiversity. Highlights include the Dragonfly Canopy Gondola, which glides above the treetops, and the Sky Bike, offering a unique perspective of the forest canopy. Guests can also visit the Life Centre and butterfly farm, climb the observation tower for panoramic views, embark on birdwatching excursions and explore waterfalls and hidden streams. Guided walks, wildlife observation and visits to the lodge’s research facilities provide further insight into the ecology of the Chocó region, making every excursion an opportunity to discover something new.
