The hotel incorporates the historic Mambo Msiige mansion, dating from the 19th century, alongside a more contemporary building designed to complement Stone Town’s distinctive architecture. Interiors blend Zanzibari, Arab, Indian and European influences, reflecting the trading history that has shaped the city. Despite being right in the centre of Stone Town, the oceanfront position, infinity pool and spacious terraces give the hotel a welcome sense of calm away from the busy streets outside.

Rooms

Accommodation comprises 67 rooms, including 11 suites, making Park Hyatt relatively intimate for a full-service city hotel. Standard rooms are generously sized at around 45 to 50 square metres, with contemporary interiors complemented by regional details and large bathrooms with separate baths and rain showers. Ocean-facing categories are particularly worthwhile for their views across the dhow harbour and Indian Ocean, while the larger suites offer considerably more space, terraces and some of the hotel’s finest waterfront views.

Dining

Dining is centred around the elegant Zamani Residence, where different rooms and terraces create a relaxed, residential atmosphere rather than a conventional hotel restaurant. The Dining Room showcases flavours influenced by Zanzibar, the Swahili Coast and the wider Indian Ocean, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and locally inspired dishes. The Pool Lounge provides a more informal option beside the oceanfront infinity pool, while the Living Room is ideal for cocktails and evening drinks overlooking the sea.

Activity

Park Hyatt’s location is its greatest advantage, with Stone Town’s historic streets immediately outside the hotel and many of its principal sights easily explored on foot. Guided walking tours can take in the Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens, markets and historic architecture, while spice-farm visits, Prison Island excursions and dhow cruises can also be arranged. Back at the hotel, guests can relax beside the oceanfront infinity pool, enjoy treatments at the spa or simply watch the dhows cross the harbour at sunset.
