Family-owned and operated, Chongwe Camp has long been regarded as one of the Lower Zambezi’s most iconic safari camps. Built using natural materials including timber, canvas and thatch, it blends seamlessly into its surroundings while maintaining a relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere. The camp’s superb riverside location attracts frequent visits from elephants, hippos and other wildlife, while its experienced guiding team and personalised service ensure an immersive safari tailored to each guest.

Rooms

Accommodation comprises eight spacious luxury tents, including one two-bedroom family tent, each positioned along the riverbank for privacy and uninterrupted views. The beautifully appointed tents feature king or twin beds, elegant en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, comfortable lounge areas and private verandas overlooking the Zambezi. Classic safari styling, combined with thoughtful modern comforts, creates a relaxed and inviting retreat in the heart of the bush.

Dining

Dining at Chongwe Camp celebrates fresh, seasonal cuisine served in a variety of memorable locations. Guests can enjoy meals in the open-sided dining area overlooking the river, beneath the stars around the campfire or in scenic bush settings during the day’s activities. Carefully prepared dishes are complemented by fine South African wines, while sunset sundowners on the banks of the Zambezi remain one of the highlights of a stay.

Activity

The Lower Zambezi is renowned for offering one of Africa’s most diverse safari experiences, and Chongwe Camp makes the most of its spectacular location. Day and night game drives reveal healthy populations of elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and wild dog, while guided bush walks provide a closer connection to the wilderness. Guests can also explore the Zambezi by canoe or motorboat, enjoy catch-and-release tiger fishing or simply cruise the river at sunset watching elephants cross between the islands.
