About

Siwandu has a classic tented safari feel, with the camp divided into two separate areas to maintain a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. The open-sided lounge and dining spaces overlook the lake, where hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife are regularly seen, while the surrounding woodland attracts elephants and other wildlife close to camp. The style is elegant but deliberately relaxed, allowing the wilderness and exceptional location to remain at the heart of the experience.

Rooms

Accommodation comprises 10 spacious tented suites, divided between the camp’s north and south sections. Each tent is raised on a wooden platform beneath a traditional thatched roof and features a generous bedroom, en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower and a private veranda overlooking the surrounding bush or lake. The combination of canvas, timber and natural materials creates a traditional safari atmosphere while providing plenty of comfort and privacy.

Dining

Dining is relaxed and flexible, with meals designed around the day’s safari activities. Breakfast might be enjoyed out in the bush following an early game drive, while lunches and dinners are served at camp overlooking the lake or in atmospheric outdoor settings. Fresh, thoughtfully prepared menus combine international dishes with African influences, complemented by sundowners beside the water and evenings around the campfire.

Activity

Game drives explore Nyerere’s woodland, open plains and lakes in search of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and the park’s important population of African wild dog. Boat safaris provide a completely different perspective, passing hippos and crocodiles while exploring the channels and lakes of the Rufiji River system. Guided walking safaris offer the opportunity to discover the smaller details of the ecosystem on foot, making Siwandu particularly rewarding for guests who want more than the traditional game-drive safari.
