Phinda Forest Lodge

andBeyond Phinda Forest Lodge is nestled deep within an ancient sand forest in the heart of the Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. Built on stilts among soaring torchwood trees, this eco-designed sanctuary—often described as “Zulu Zen”—blends modern glass and wood architecture with forest immersion.

About
Conceived to protect rather than intrude on the landscape, Phinda Forest Lodge employs minimal-impact construction—no trees were felled—and merges contemporary design with rich cultural touches. The lodge has recently undergone a sensitive refurbishment to refresh its interiors with natural materials and elegant finishes that echo both the iconic forest setting and local Zulu heritage.
Rooms
The lodge features sixteen elevated glass-walled suites, each positioned to feel light, open, and completely private. Inside, you’ll find polished wooden floors, minimalist decor, en-suite baths, and viewing decks that invite the forest in. The “family suite” offers additional space and privacy for up to four guests.
Dining
Dining is immersive and atmospheric: breakfasts and lunch are enjoyed on the elevated deck, while evenings may be spent in the candlelit boma—or under the stars in a special bush setting. The cuisine merges Pan-African creativity with local produce, all served in magical locations topped by natural ambiance and attentive service.
Activity
The lodge offers a thrilling range of safari experiences: twice-daily game drives, guided bush walks, specialist walking adventures, river cruises, and conservation participation such as rhino notching or pangolin tagging. Guests also benefit from proximity to Indian Ocean beaches for scuba or turtle-watching excursions, making it uniquely positioned for bush-to-shore safaris.
