Long Lee Manor

Shamwari Long Lee Manor is a luxury safari lodge set within the renowned Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, a malaria-free wildlife haven spanning 25,000 ha and teeming with iconic species including elephant, rhino, lion and leopard. The property combines classic elegance with immersive bush experiences.

About
Originally built in 1910 and lovingly restored, Long Lee Manor draws inspiration from Edwardian architecture but is fully updated with modern luxury touches. The manor house sits amidst manicured lawns and indigenous landscapes that seamlessly transition into the surrounding bush, exuding old-world glamour while offering contemporary amenities such as a relaxation retreat with spa treatments, fitness centre, rim-flow swimming pool and elegant communal spaces for dining, fireside cocktails and sundowners.
Rooms
The lodge features just 18 individually styled rooms and suites, including plains-facing rooms with private verandas, garden rooms set among lush grounds, and a family suite with two bedrooms and a private plunge pool. All accommodations are air-conditioned and come with en-suite bathrooms, seating areas and thoughtful touches such as Nespresso machines and mini-bars, blending classic comfort with scenic views over the plains and bush.
Dining
Dining at Long Lee Manor is an elegant and social affair with menus showcasing fresh, thoughtfully prepared cuisine — often served indoors in the refined dining room or al-fresco on the terrace overlooking the plains. Meals can include gourmet picnics taken on safari, traditional BBQs around the boma fire pit under a starry sky, and tailored offerings to suit different tastes, all complemented by fine South African wines and attentive service that enhance the safari dining experience.
Activity
The core activity at Long Lee Manor is superb game viewing: twice-daily guided game drives in open 4×4 vehicles explore the diverse habitats of Shamwari, with expert guides seeking out Big Five sightings and sharing insights into the reserve’s rich ecosystem. Beyond game drives, guests can enjoy guided bush walks, birdwatching, visits to the Born Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, spa and wellness treatments, leisurely dips in the infinity pool or simply wildlife and sunlit views from the lodge’s verandas — all set within a leading conservation-focused reserve.
