About

Opened by the One&Only group in 2019, the lodge has been designed to combine refined comfort with deep immersion in nature. The architecture, elevated wooden lodges and suites nestled among eucalyptus trees, is intended to harmonize with the environment rather than dominate it, offering serenity, privacy and a sense of conservation-minded hospitality. Guests often describe it as a “jungle-chic” retreat, where luxury meets wilderness in delicate balance.  

Rooms

Accommodation at Gorilla’s Nest consists of 21 lodges and suites, ranging from forest-view “treehouse” lodges to spacious suites and two-bedroom options for families or groups. Each unit typically features floor-to-ceiling windows, private terraces or decks overlooking forest or volcano vistas, and luxurious touches such as en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs or open-air showers, fireplaces, and wood-and-stone décor.  

Dining

Dining at Gorilla’s Nest brings together fine food, local flavours and an ambient rainforest backdrop. Menus favour fresh, locally-grown produce and seasonal ingredients, often harvested from the resort’s own gardens. Guests can enjoy meals in the main dining area, or more intimate settings - perhaps by a fireplace, on a raised deck, or around the lodge’s rose-infused cocktail bar. This flexibility adds a sense of romance and uniqueness to the culinary experience.  

Activity

The main draw is guided gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, a life-changing wildlife experience facilitated by the lodge’s proximity to the park headquarters. For those looking for variety beyond gorillas, there are golden-monkey treks, forest walks, volcano hikes, and cultural excursions with visits to local villages that help guests connect with Rwandan heritage. After a day of adventure, guests can relax with spa treatments, enjoy the infinity pool set amidst greenery, or unwind by listening to local story-telling and drumming circles.
