About

Kwessi Dunes is designed to immerse guests in the beauty of the Namib Desert while maintaining a light environmental footprint. The lodge combines contemporary comfort with classic safari style, creating a relaxed atmosphere that celebrates the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it. The NamibRand is Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, making stargazing a defining part of the experience, while the sense of space and silence offers a complete contrast to traditional wildlife safaris.  

Rooms

Accommodation comprises just 12 spacious, air-conditioned thatched chalets, including two family units, each positioned to maximise privacy and uninterrupted desert views. Interiors feature elegant canvas walls, natural textures and en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, while every chalet has its own separate open-air ‘Star Gazer’ room, allowing guests to sleep beneath Namibia’s extraordinary night sky if they wish.  

Dining

Dining at Kwessi Dunes is relaxed and sociable, with fresh, flavourful cuisine served in the open-sided dining area overlooking the desert. Menus celebrate seasonal ingredients and are complemented by excellent South African wines and sunset drinks around the campfire. Bush breakfasts and private dining experiences can also be arranged, making the most of the spectacular desert setting.  

Activity

Explore the remarkable landscapes of the NamibRand Nature Reserve through guided nature drives and walks, where guests may encounter oryx, springbok, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, bat-eared foxes and other desert-adapted wildlife. Stargazing is a major highlight thanks to the reserve’s exceptional dark skies, while quad biking is included for guests wanting a more exhilarating way to explore. Optional experiences include hot-air ballooning, horse riding, scenic helicopter flights and full-day excursions to Sossusvlei.
